Hyunjoo Chung, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Owner & Speech Pathologist

Dr. Hyunjoo Chung is a Texas State licensed and nationally certified speech-language pathologist with over 19 years experience working across a variety of medical settings. She specializes in adult neurological rehabilitation with special interests in swallowing difficulties, aphasia, apraxia, Bell’s and facial palsy, Parkinson’s voice and speech impairments, and other neurogenic communication disorders. Prior to starting private practice, she worked primarily with adults in a variety of settings including acute care hospitals, acute inpatient rehabilitation hospitals/units, outpatient clinics, long term acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and group homes. She previously worked in California for 14 years before moving to Dallas, Texas in 2018.

She believes in Interactive Care Model as a framework that can engage clients in their care and treatment through collaborative planning, exchange of resources and choices, and carry-over of learned skills and strategies into their life. She desires to see her clients’ functional goals be attained in such processes. As a small business owner and clinician, she wants to offer flexible options to clients ranging from therapy at a clinic, in-home therapy, and tele-therapy. The clinician and clients should be able to make an agreement on which environment would be most productive in achieving their mutual goals.

Dr. Chung earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Yonsei University, South Korea, Master’s degree in Linguistics from Michigan State University, and Master’s and doctoral degrees in Speech Language Pathology from Kent State University, Ohio. She recently obtained a Graduate Certificate for Online and Blended Learning and Teaching from the Educational Technology Program, Kent State University.

She received a Certificate Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2004 and has been a member of the Special Interest Group 3 (Voice and Upper Airway Disorders) and 13 (Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders) and ACE award recipient. Finally, she is a a certified provider of McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program (MDTP) and Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention, and is also a trained provider of SPEAKOUT!® and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD® and is PROMPT-trained and MBSImP registered clinician.

Dr. Chung is enthusiastic about collaborating with clients and their family to help clients implement their home exercises programs to expedite and maximize their success in therapy. She cherishes her interactions with clients and celebrations of their achievement in the course of intervention. She is excited to bring her private practice to a small clinic space, your home as mobile outpatient clinic in the comfort of your home, and on-line therapy. In addition, it is also her pleasure to offer services to clients who might have been under served due to limited availability of Korean speaking clinicians.
